We all know that goal setting is a key factor in achieving our dreams, whether it’s building a booty, learning a handstand, or getting your body beach ready. It’s easy to SET a goal that is a far off idea and sounds really amazing, but the challenge lies in getting from your starting point all the way to that end result. Using my SMART goal setting guide (click here for my blog on smart goal setting) can help you to really dial in exactly what you want to achieve and set a time frame. Once you have set the specifics of your goal the next step is working out the HOW.


What is your HOW?

Your HOW refers to the specific steps it will take to get you where you want to be. The process you will follow to achieve your goals. Say your goal is growing your booty and toning your body, or maybe it is transitioning to a healthier, plant-based diet. It’s great you have a specific goal dialed in, now you need to work out what you need to do each day to get you closer to achieving that dream.


The HOW focuses on the process, or the journey, and it will includes plenty of ups as well as downs. When you think of your goal, do you also think of the countless sacrifices it will take to get you there? How many times have you started a training program or eating plan, only to fall off the wagon a week or two in because your will power falters or you’re not seeing results or the expectations are just unrealistic?


When you employ a little forward thinking by anticipating the hardships you will be facing, you embark on your transformational journey better prepared. If we only focus on the end result, will we really be aware of the steps we need to take and the sacrifices we need to make to achieve our goals? As they say, great things never come from comfort zones!


Working out your HOW:

  • Create your #SQUAD: There are people out there that dedicate their lives to helping others achieve their goals. The positive to recruiting a professional is that they will help simplify the process of getting you closer to your results. You will work together combining your ideas with their knowledge and professional experience to make your journey more simple. You could be dishing out the dollars but when selected carefully, health and fitness professionals will give you high quality advice and programs and can be well worth the money you spend. Through my online training programs and meal plans I can provide you with support and guide you towards your health and fitness goals. I have helped transform the lives (and bodies) of thousands of girls all over the world and I have so much knowledge to share with you.

 

Your squad also includes your support team, like your friends, family, or even the online community like my #WBKgirls. So make sure you are surrounding yourself with people that support you and your goals and have your best interest at heart.


  • Be realistic: if your goal requires you to drastically change your lifestyle, really put you out of your comfort zone, or just repeatedly get you doing something you downright hate, then you will either need very strong motivation, bribery or to transition to it very slowly. Being realistic doesn’t mean you have to change your goal, but it may require adjusting your time frame or setting up some smaller checkpoints along the way.


  • Schedule: Use a diary, or a daily, weekly or monthly planner to schedule in the details of your sessions, and check off whether you are doing them! Seeing a visual image of how many sessions you’ve hit or missed can be valuable motivation. Put together a timetable of all of the essential tasks in your day. Schedule in your sessions just like you would work, appointments or special occasions, and stick to the this schedule! You can also add checkpoints into your diary, further down the line, where you can look back on your progress and ensure you’re headed in the right direction.


  • Set reminders: Set reminders on your phone to help keep you on track, these can be to remind you to stay hydrated, be active, stretch and even bedtime reminders. Setting a daily bedtime and sticking to it is one of the best things you can do for your well being as well as your energy levels.


Working out your HOW will show exactly what you have to do to reach your goals. Taking the time to put together a schedule filled with training sessions, rest days and checkpoints will keep you on track each day, show that you are making progress (even if you don’t always SEE it) and will help keep you on track to achieving your dreams!
